Not all of us have the luxury of owning a large Hollywood-style home with a spacious garage. Some people may not even have enough space in their garage for a car.
But all of us do have the liberty to design our garages in a way that can maximize their storage capacity. The trick is to use the right storage and materials that let light in.
When renovating a small garage, look to incorporate the following elements to make it look more spacious:
Ceiling Drawers:
Adding shelving units to the ceiling makes for easily accessible storage that can save up a lot of precious space on the ground. Plus, it can be made using any material and in any size.
Keep items off the floor:
Creating an open floor space allows a small area to look bigger. This is especially true for small garages, which you can clear up by adding shelves on the walls. Use wall mounted shelving units and pegboards for hanging up any stray items like tools, hoses, and create more visibility.
Hang your bike up:
Are your bikes taking up too much space in your garage? Create a bike storage solution by hanging hooks on your garage walls to park your bikes. This will protect them from damage as well as keep them dry.
Paint it white:
Repaint your garage a light color (like white) to bring the light in. If your garage is painted a dark color, it may be making your garage look smaller. On the contrary, light colors reflect light and make your garage look brighter and more spacious.
If you don’t like white, try a soft blue or green color to give a more homely feeling. Use the same color to paint wall trims and molding to create an illusion of additional space.
Add mirrors and windows:
Mirrors and windows also add to the brightness in the garage, making it appear larger. Since mirrors reflect light, use them in conjunction with windows for an amplified effect.
Get windows installed on garage doors to allow natural sunlight to envelop the room during the day.
Upgrade the doors:
While this may be an exterior upgrade, it is still necessary to increase space in your garage. Weathered and scuffed doors make the room look stuffy and compact. According to the state of the door, you may either need a garage door replacement.
